About our processor
We are extraordinarily fortunate to be members of the Island Grown
Farmers Cooperative (IGFC). Our Coop operates the first and only
USDA inspected Mobile Slaughter Unit (MSU) in the country at this
time. The MSU enables us to keep our steers on the farm for harvest.
This is very important. We never lose control of our animals by sending
them off to a slaughter facility where they are exposed to all kinds
of stresses and feed changes. Our butcher, Jim, is a master. He was
trained in the family business both in Holland and in the U.S. He
is a gentle conscientious man, we could not ask for better.
Our USDA inspected processing facility in Bow, WA where Jim and
his excellent crew do the cutting, packaging and freezing of our
beef supports the MSU. Both the MSU and the facility in Bow are clean,
efficient and small. Small is important; every carcass is given proper
care and attention. We are a Farmers Coop and we consume our own
products. We want the best for both our families and you our customers.
The MSU & the processing facility are certified Organic. Instead
of chlorine and other commercial disinfectants that are typically
used in washing the carcass after slaughter we use effective non-toxic
vinegar. When you pick up your beef at the facility you will be met
by open doors and good people. The IGFC crew works hard and are busy,
but if time permits they will be glad to show you around.
